Rising to fame with the Sir Douglas Quintet, he arrived in San Francisco during the iconic Summer of Love in 1967. Returning to Texas, he became the cowboy-hippie rocker who fostered Austin’s music scene before co-founding the Tex-Mex powerhouse, The Texas Tornados.
