This documentary chronicles Canadian-born defenseman Luke Prokop, who becomes the first—and remains the only—athlete under an NHL contract to publicly come out as gay. Raised in Edmonton amid Canada's rugged, frequently homophobic hockey landscape, and lacking any gay sports figures to look up to, Luke's journey toward openness was far from simple. The film captures his deeply personal path within a professional hockey world that has shown, at best, mixed feelings toward diversity. Going public hits his family like an earthquake, particularly his father Al—Luke's mentor and occasional coach—whose bond with his son forms the film's most layered and poignant relationship.
