Maafushi Central Prison is a high-security facility spanning ten football fields in size. Enclosed by six-meter-tall walls and surrounded by water, it accommodates up to 800 inmates under stringent security protocols. The prison's effectiveness relies on extensive surveillance through numerous cameras, strict regulations, and daily inspections. Within this vacation paradise, the prison consists of nine distinct units. The largest, Unit 9, is a star-shaped structure designated for high-security prisoners, while Units 5 to 8 cater to those with lower security levels or nearing release. The women’s section is situated on the opposite side, and there is also a workshop area for well-behaved inmates to engage in work activities.
