After the Gunderson brothers—Brandon, Gary, and Robby—bring in Ron Snuffkin to act as their father while their real dad is in prison, they discover that Ron is far more complex than just a stand-in. He must navigate the challenges of enrolling the boys in school, persuading Robby’s teacher to allow him to stay in class, charming the principal, searching for vintage toy soldiers at his grandmother's home, and fending off a thug who's after his cash.
