Amy is especially affected by the case, showing deep emotional turmoil. At the same time, Ben spirals into a dark place as he grapples with Susie's rejection, convincing himself that he has failed as a police officer. As he wrestles with thoughts of suicide, he ultimately decides on a more honorable path by resigning from the force and heading to Perth to be with his children.
