S02E04 The Wrong Empire (1750 - 1800)
Episode Overview
How did a nation that prided itself on freedom become responsible for the oppression of countless others? A country that harbored skepticism towards military forces evolved into the most formidable military power worldwide, transforming from an empire of liberty into one of bondage. The British expanded their influence globally, driven by ambition and a thirst for exploration, all while engaging in the abhorrent trade of human lives. As trade flourished with commodities like tea, sugar, and coffee, the imposition of taxes cost Britain its American colonies but ultimately opened doors to dominance in India, with tax collectors morphing into rulers and traders. The Misguided Empire narrates the thrilling yet harrowing tale of how a small archipelago came to wield such vast global control, blending adventure with exploitation and strife.
