Colosseum S01E04 - The Gladiatrix

Episode Overview

During Emperor Trajan's grand games in 107 AD, spectators are astonished by an unusual sight: female gladiators. Traditionally, these fighters are captives, but Mevia, a Roman woman, dares to challenge convention by relinquishing her free status to enter the arena as a gladiatrix. This bold move draws ire from the renowned historian and satirist, Juvenal, highlighting the struggles faced by women of lower social standing in ancient Rome. Mevia's decision sparks a debate about freedom and societal roles, making her a pivotal figure in the arena's history.
